COURSE DESCRIPTION

The Advanced Trauma Life Support® (ATLS®) program teaches health care providers a systematic, concise approach to the care of a trauma patient. ATLS® is an American College of Surgeons (ACS) national curriculum course that provides the learner a safe and reliable method for immediate management of injured patients.  Providers learn how to assess a patient’s condition, resuscitate and stabilize the patient, and determine if the patient’s needs exceed a facility’s capacity. It also covers how to arrange for a patient’s inter-hospital transfer and assure that optimum care is provided throughout the process.
Many hospitals require physicians who work in their emergency department to maintain current ATLS® certification.

TARGET AUDIENCE (WHO SHOULD ATTEND?)

Attending Physicians, Resident/Fellow Physicians, ARNPs, PAs, CRNAs involved in treatment and management of emergency, critical and trauma patients.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

As a result of participating in this activity, the physician, ARNP or PA will be able to:

  • Assess the patient’s condition rapidly and accurately
  • Resuscitate and stabilize the patient according to priority
  • Determine if the patient’s needs exceed a facility’s capabilities
  • Arrange appropriately for the patient’s definitive care
  • Ensure that optimum patient care is provided

PREREQUISITES AND COMPLETION REQUIREMENTS
