Resident Training

CAMLS offers a myriad of nationally recognized courses and courses developed at CAMLS through the USF Health Continuing Professional Development department housed at CAMLS. Courses are offered throughout the year. Courses are geared toward a wide variety of specialties and are for doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Certification and Recertification)
ACLS is an advanced, instructor-led course that highlights the importance of team dynamics and communication, systems of care and immediate post-cardiac-arrest care. This course also covers airway management and related pharmacology. Hands-on, case-based scenarios are presented.
ASSET (Advanced Surgical Skills in Exposure in Trauma)
The ASSET course uses human cadavers to teach surgical exposure of anatomic structures that, when injured, may pose a threat to life or limb. Key areas of exposure are neck, chest, abdomen and pelvis, and upper and lower extremities.
ATLS (Advanced Trauma Life Support Certification and Recertification)
The ATLS® program provides a systematic, concise approach to the care of a trauma patient. Participants learn how to assess a patient’s condition, resuscitate and stabilize the patient, and determine if the patient’s needs exceed a facility’s capacity.
ATOM (Advanced Trauma Operative Management)
The ATOM® course is an effective method of increasing surgical competence and confidence in the operative management of penetrating injuries to the chest and abdomen.
Cardiovascular Resident Bootcamp
Provides first-year fellows the opportunity to practice cardiac procedures they have yet to perform on patients.
Emergency Department Bootcamp
An immersive, intensive training course for ED residents on airway procedures ranging from basic to advanced procedures using task trainers and high fidelity simulation.
Emergency Medicine Residents Simulation Training
Training for emergency medicine residents using scenario-based cases that address real-life situations.
FCCS (Fundamental Critical Care Support)
The Society of Critical Care Medicine’s (SCCM) internationally renowned two-day FCCS course is the go-to resource for training non-intensivist house staff, residents, pharmacists, nurses, or other critical care practitioners how to recognize patient status deterioration and manage critically ill and injured patients effectively.
Fundamentals of Endoscopic Surgery (FES) Testing
FES Testing is useful in assessing whether or not a practicing surgeon possesses the basic knowledge and skills fundamental to the performance of gastrointestinal endoscopic surgery.
Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery (FLS) Testing
FLS Testing measures cognitive knowledge, case/problem management skills and manual dexterity. The FLS program content has been endorsed by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and is a joint educational offering of SAGES and ACS. FLS is also CME accredited.
Hematology/Oncology Resident OSCEs (Breaking Bad News) Simulation Training
Simulation training for first year hematology/oncology residents to learn how to provide care for patients/families who face difficult issues such as end of life.
Internal Medicine Bootcamp
This course provides Internal Medicine residents skills to meet the ACGME benchmarks of education to provide excellence in patient-centered inpatient and outpatient care.
Neurology Resident Bootcamp
Provides a combination of lecture, review of anatomy and physiology, hands-on task training and team scenario opportunities for residents and fellows. Course focuses on procedures such as lumbar puncture and epidural placement.
Neurosurgery Bootcamp
Provides procedural training using endovascular simulators for first year fellows preparing to perform these procedures on patients.
OB/GYN Bootcamp
OB/GYN residents practice surgical and clinical procedures that will be performed in the clinic or OR, including laparoscopic tubal ligation and others.
OB/GYN Simulation Training
Resident simulation training in the areas of FLS, laparoscopy and hysteroscopy.
Pediatric Bootcamp
Residents practice lumbar puncture, thoracentesis, urinary catheterization, intubation, IO, etc. Scenarios are integrated to combine the learned skills for a final experience.
