Surgery Courses

CAMLS offers a myriad of nationally recognized courses and courses developed at CAMLS through the USF Health Continuing Professional Development department housed at CAMLS. Courses are offered throughout the year. Courses are geared toward a wide variety of specialties and are for doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. ASSET (Advanced Surgical Skills in Exposure in Trauma)
The ASSET course uses human cadavers to teach surgical exposure of anatomic structures that, when injured, may pose a threat to life or limb. Key areas of exposure are neck, chest, abdomen and pelvis, and upper and lower extremities.
ATOM (Advanced Trauma Operative Management)
The ATOM® course is an effective method of increasing surgical competence and confidence in the operative management of penetrating injuries to the chest and abdomen.
Best Practices in Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery
This curriculum is a metric-based, cadaveric course to ensure readiness for participation in a practice-based, mentored training program for complex laparoscopic colorectal surgery. Specifically, participants will learn best-practice performance criteria for left and right laparoscopic-assisted colectomies.
Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery
This curriculum provides a cadaver based, hands-on educational program designed to provide an in-depth experience in gynecologic minimally invasive surgical techniques. It is designed for gynecologic surgeons who desire to advance their laparoscopic skills and knowledge base, and apply these skills to perform more advanced minimally invasive surgeries. It will include training in laparoscopic suturing techniques, laparoscopic surgical dissection and effective use of laparoscopic instrumentation.
REBOA: Resuscitative Endovascular Baloon Occlusion Of The Aorta Workshop
This course is designed for Trauma Surgeons, Acute Care Surgeons, Emergency Department Physicians, Military Providers who care for hemorrhagic shock, as well as Trauma/Acute Care Fellows, General Surgery Residents, Emergency Department Residents, and Vascular Surgery Residents and Fellows.  Click here for more details.

TAMIS (Transanal Minimally Invasive Surgery)
This course expands surgeons’ skills utilizing TAMIS to resection lesions in the rectum. Through didactic lectures, viewing of live TAMIS cases and a hands-on workshop, participants will learn the techniques and laparoscopic instrumentation used to perform a TAMIS procedure.
TLH (Total Laparoscopic Hysterectomy)
This curriculum provides a cadaver based, hands-on educational program designed to provide an in-depth experience in gynecologic minimally invasive surgical techniques.
