Course Overview

The Joy McCann Culverhouse Center for Swallowing Disorders 3rd Annual Swallowing Symposium is a free educational event held in honor of Dysphagia Awareness Month, designed to bring together professionals interested in advancing the assessment and management of swallowing disorders. This interdisciplinary symposium welcomes clinicians, trainees, and students from multiple fields, including speech-language pathology, gastroenterology, otolaryngology, psychology, surgery, and other related disciplines. Join us in person or virtually to engage in collaborative learning, discussion, and patient centered care.

Speech-Language Pathologists, Gastroenterologists, General Surgery, Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, Occupational Therapists, Dietitians, Nursing, Primary Care Physicians

Learning Objectives:

  • Analyze the role of emerging advanced diagnostic tools in the assessment of complex swallowing disorders.
  • Evaluate evidence-based best practices for the multidisciplinary diagnosis and management of eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) across the lifespan.
  • Integrate interdisciplinary perspectives (SLP, GI, ENT, psychology, surgery) in the management of complex dysphagia.
  • Assess the impact of medical, behavioral, and surgical interventions on swallowing function and patient-centered outcomes.
  • Apply case-based strategies to develop comprehensive, individualized dysphagia treatment plans

Jaimie Anderson, MS, CCC-SLP, BC-ANCDS

Jaimie Anderson is a medical speech-language pathologist (SLP), board certified by the Academy of Neurologic Communication Disorders and Sciences (BC-ANCDS). She currently evaluates and treats complex multiphase swallowing, voice, upper airway and motor speech disorders in a multidisciplinary team at the University of South Florida Joy McCann Culverhouse Center for Swallowing Disorders in Tampa, Florida. Jaimie earned a Master of Science at Florida State University. Her clinical experience includes UT MD Anderson Cancer Center, Cleveland Clinic Florida and Memorial Regional Hospital. Jaimie serves on committees for ANCDS, Dysphagia Research Society and ASHA Special Interest Group 2 Neurogenic Communication Disorders.
